How GIRLS changed my view on life as a young adult!

I turned 18 two years ago and that in it's self is terrifying, you can feel adulthood getting closer and closer by the day. Everyone around you now expects you to know the exact career you want, when you want to get married and when your going to move out and get your own place. Now fast forward two years I am 20 years old, I still have no idea what career I want, still live with my parents but am in a happy relationship. Now when I was a child I thought that by the age of 20 you had your entire life planned out and are on the way to getting your dream job, I always thought that my 20 year old self would be making enough to be able to move out of my parents house (it was a different time back then, according to my parents and grandparents renting was A LOT cheaper back then). Now I recently discovered the show GIRLS (I am extremely late I know) and this show has helped me to realise and accept a lot of things. I have began to realise that me thinking that I would basically have my life sorted and on track by the age of 20 is crazy, 20 is incredibly young and if I am being honest I still feel like a child. When discussing this with the adults in my life (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles etc) I begin to realise just how much times have changed, by the time my mum with 20 she had me and was living in her own flat. Personally I can not even begin to imagine myself having a child at this age, I feel like a kid myself but I have learned how different things were then as having a child young was the norm and waiting was rare. The 90s generation is the generation that has learnt and decided for ourselves that we don't have to be married and have three children by the age of 25 and we are really okay with that. Our generation are putting our own wants, needs and goals before settling down and I think that's amazing! Let me ask you a question, you know when you watch a movie or a TV show and the man in his 40s is having a mid life crisis, I believe that these may be incredibly less common in our generation as more and more of us are taking more time for ourselves to try and achieve what we want before we settle down and slow down. Now I do not want people to take anything I am saying as offensive, I pass no judgment to those who decide to settle down at 20 and have children and get married! People who have children young can turn out to be the best parents in the world, I know from experience as my parents had me as the young age of 18 and 19 and I grew up in a happy home. My mum was a young mother of 18 and in my opinion she is the best mother in the world and I honestly couldn't ask for a better mum. I also am in no way saying that by settling down and having children and getting married that it means you can't do it all, both women and men can be a parent whilst pursuing their own dreams. This post is only to inform people on how shows like GIRLS are helping young adults, both men and women that we don't have to have our entire life planned out by 20 and we also don't need to living our lives for anyone but ourselves.
